Making your Windows desktop look elegant can be a great way to personalize your computer and make it more enjoyable to use. There are a variety of ways to do this, including customizing the background, using a custom theme, customizing the taskbar, using a dock, and using customization tools like Rainmeter.

There are several ways to make your Windows desktop look elegant and personalized to your taste:

1. Desktop Wallpaper

You can change the desktop background to an image that you like or use a dynamic wallpaper that changes automatically.

Apps That I Personally Used for Wallpaper Customization Are:

A. Lively Wallpaper

One of the best free app for live wallpaper. It have tons of features like include moving pictures, or even interactive elements like weather updates. You can Completely customized still images and make it look alive.

From where to install: You can Get this app for free from Microsoft Store.

B. Unsplash

Unsplash is a website that offers a large collection of high-resolution photographs that are free to use for any purpose, including as wallpaper.

Unsplash can be used as a source of image for lively wallpapers as well. Since they are high resolution, you can resize them to fit your deviceā€™s screen. Additionally, Unsplash has a wide variety of categories that you can browse through, so you can easily find the perfect photograph to use as your wallpaper.

C. Pexels

Pexels is also a free stock high-resolution image website that are free to use. Same as unsplash but needs signup to download images.

2. Taskbar Customization

I personally recommend to use free taskbar customization app TranslucentTB. Just like its name it can make your taskbar completly translucent, opaque, clear, acrylic and you can also set solid background color. You can completely customized when it should be opaque on window minimize on search opened and lot more features.

From where to install: You can Get this app for free from Microsoft Store.

3. Widget App

I personally recommend to use free app Rainmeter for widget customization as it is free and open-source desktop customization application for Windows. It allows users to create and display ā€œskinsā€ on their desktop, which can display information such as the time, weather, and system resource usage. Rainmeter also provides a built-in scripting engine, allowing users to create interactive skins that can respond to clicks, key presses, and other user inputs.

Rainmeter skins are created using a combination of simple text files and image files, which define the layout and appearance of the skin, and a scripting language called Lua, which is used to add interactivity and dynamic behavior to the skin. Skins can be easily customized and shared with other users through online skin repositories, such as deviantArt and Customize.org.

Some common use case for Rainmeter includes: -Creating a custom desktop layout with widgets for system information, weather, calendar, music player, music visualizer and more. Creating skins that show current CPU, memory, and network usage. Creating interactive skins that can launch programs or open websites. Creating skins that display information from other sources like RSS feed and twitter. creating skins that shows current game status and FPS.

From where to install: You can Get this app for free from its official Website.

4. Visual Studio Code Theme.

My favourite theme Vibrancy Continued by illixion. This theme can make your visual studio look like macOS visual studio as in macOS visual studio background is translucent (you can see through it) which look so awesome. Just like that it enable Acrylic/Glass effect in VS Code in windows which look petty elegant. Just one thing this theme is not completely workable you get some warning like your code installation appears wrong as developer of this theme says not to worry about and ignore as it is completely safe. While using this theme I got some lagging issues. This theme supports completely in windows 10 but lagged in windows 11 as it is still in development future update may resolve this issues.

From where to install: You can Get this theme from vs code extension marketplace just search vibrancy.

5. MacOS Spotlight feature.

If you ever use macOS you see it has an amazing spotlight feature which enables you to search anything, do calculation etc. But in windows donā€™t have such features. But here is Easter Egg. You can get this feature too as microsoft have its own opensource app PowerToys which is currently in development but it offers spotlight features and lot more features like Always on top, awake, color picker etc. But one of the best features of this app is PowerToys Run which have same features like macOS spotlight. A enhanced launcher that allows you to quickly search for and launch applications and files. But this app is curently in devlopment so not work as good as spotlight.

From where to install: You can Get this app for free from Microsoft Store.

6 MacOS Style Dock

If youā€™re looking for a way to personalize your computerā€™s interface and get a new look for your Windows taskbar, the Winstep Nexus Dock is a great option to consider. This free dock application offers many themes, widgets, and customizing options that allow you to change the appearance and functionality of your desktop. It also has the ability to fully replace the taskbar. It is compatible with Windows platforms 11, 10, 8.1, 8, and 7.

Keep in mind that the Winstep Nexus Dock shares some similarities with another popular dock application, ObjectDock. However, the interface of ObjectDock is more user-friendly and intuitive in terms of customization options. Although, The Winstep Nexus Dock has a lot of features, it may take some time to get used to its menus and options.

There is a paid version of the Winstep Nexus Dock available that offers advanced features such as the ability to create multiple docks, nest docks, and shelves. But the free version will be sufficient for most casual users.

From where to install: You can Get this app for free from its official website

Conclusion

In conclusion, customizing the look and feel of your desktop can be a great way to make your computer feel more personalized and unique. There are many different ways to customize your desktop, from changing the wallpaper to adding widgets and icons.

Using Live wallpapers is a great way to add animation and movement to your desktop and it can be achieved through using various live wallpaper apps that can be downloaded from appstores or using high resolution images from websites such as Unsplash and Pexels.

Additionally, you can also customize your desktop by organizing your icons, hiding icons and shortcuts, choosing a custom color scheme and font, or even by installing third-party themes and skins to change the overall look and feel of your operating system. Some popular apps and software that can help in this case are Rainmeter, and Windowblinds, etc.

Overall, customizing your desktop is a fun and easy way to make your computer feel like your own, and you have a lot of options to explore!
